When preparing to decorate for your ceremony, the wedding aisle is one of the biggest points of emphasis. Typically, people will use a long runner down the center of the seating to create a pathway for the wedding party follow. Additionally, most people will use flower petals or artificial roses to make the appearance more elegant. However, some couples prefer something more unique such as candles or even lining their wedding aisle with sparklers! But how does this work exactly? And, is it safe to have sparklers along your wedding aisle? Here is everything you need to know for a beautiful and safe ceremony.

Different Ways to Decorate Your Wedding Aisle with Sparklers

There are several different ways that couples choose to decorate their wedding aisle with the help of sparklers. However, there are a handful of ideas that are mostly commonly used. To help, I’ve created a list of the 8 most popular ways to pull this idea off. Here is a breakdown of each one to help you choose what’s best for your event.

Line the Wedding Aisle with Sparklers

One of the coolest ways to use sparklers during your wedding ceremony is to line the aisle with them. Though there are a few ways to do this, most people prefer to do it in the literal sense. By which, of course, I mean sticking sparklers into the ground to light the path towards the altar. However, there can be some safety concerns involved; so you need to be careful how you do this. First, the people sitting on the aisle should be aware that this is happening. Second, you need to position them far enough away from the guests to be safe. Lastly, you want to use the right version to eliminate any risks. The best choice for this type of display is bottle sparklers because they shoot straight into the air and include an anchoring spike.

Include Them with the Wedding Programs

Most couples like to place a printed program at each seat so the guests know what to expect. Occasionally, people like to include a flower or small canister of bubbles so the guests have something to do at their seat. However, a newer trend is to include sparklers and a book of matches with the programs instead! If you go this route, make sure to print some instructions in the programs so everyone is on the same page. Also, make sure you choose a wedding program design that will allow you to use a piece of tape to hold these items in place. If done correctly, it can be a great way to make your event more exciting!

Create a Grand Entrance at Your Ceremony

Couple Holding Wedding SparklersOverall, one of the easiest ways to decorate your wedding aisle with sparklers is by having the guests create a grand entrance. After the bride is announce, your guests will stand up with their lit sparklers to create an enchanting pathway to the altar. Ideally, you want to set this up in a similar way to using sparklers for a wedding send-off. This will lead to some amazing photos to top in your scrapbook. Additionally, it will create an incredibly special moment for the bride as she makes her way down the aisle.

Use Wedding Sparklers During the Processional

A processional at a wedding ceremony is the traditional way that the bridal party gets to their places. Typically, bridesmaids and groomsmen will be paired up to parade down the aisle in an orderly fashion. Ideally, the processional will be a highly coordinated process that can include anything from funky dance moves to tossing out flowers. However, using wedding sparklers during the processional is also a fun activity to try! As each group makes their way down the aisle, they hold lit sparklers high in the air. This will not only command the attention of the guests but also make for some amazing photo opportunities.

Have the Flower Girl Hold One

One of the most cherished wedding traditions still observed today is having a flower girl. Some couples have her go about before the entire bridal party while others have her start just before the bride is introduced. Whichever way you go, swapping out flowers for sparklers can be a fun twist to this practice. However, it’s important to make sure the flower girl is old enough to handle sparklers safely before moving forward. If the child is too young, you should probably stick with the traditional flower method.

Have the Ring Bearer Hold One

Another popular tradition that many people observe is having a ring bearer at their wedding. Usually, you choose a young boy to carry the rings on a pillow ahead of the rest of the bridal party. However, this can also be a great way to decorate your wedding aisle with sparklers! If the child is old enough, they should be able to hold the ring pillow in one hand while holding a lit sparkler in the other. Optionally, you can have a group of ring bearers so that one person is holding the rings and the rest are holding sparklers. Whichever method you choose, make sure they are old enough to handle the responsibility safely.

Add Them to the Bride’s Bouquet

One of my personal favorite ways to include sparklers in your wedding aisle is in the bride’s bouquet. While this seems like a huge challenge, it can actually be accomplished quite easily. Since the modern wedding was invented, brides have searched for unconventional bouquets for the bride to hold. If you plan to include sparklers, though, there are some key things to remember. First, you want to avoid artificial flowers made from things like paper that can easily catch on fire. Second, you want to make sure you moisten the flowers in the bouquet so they can better resist the elevated temperatures. Lastly, you need to choose sparklers that are longer than the flowers so they are visible and isolated. If you can manage those three things, it can be a great addition to your ceremony.

Use Sparklers During the Recessional

Lastly, many couples feature a recessional as part of their ceremony. Essentially, this is the orderly way that the bridal party is dismissed after the event concludes. Similar to using them for the processional, have each group hold lit sparklers as they make their way to the exit. One of the best things about this is that you need fewer sparklers to achieve the desired effect. Not only does this make for a cost-effective decoration for your wedding aisle, but it also makes the entire things safer.

Should You Decorate Your Wedding Aisle with Sparklers?

Before you decide whether or not this concept is right for your event, you need to weigh the pros and cons. There are certain risks that come along with this type of activity, it can also add a lot to the experience. First and foremost, you need to make sure you are keeping everyone safe. Second, you need to make sure everyone is on the same page before you begin. Lastly, you need to make sure that everyone participating is old enough and responsible enough to handle sparklers safely. As long as you can check those boxes, decorating your wedding aisle with sparklers can be a magical part of your big day. Good luck and enjoy your wedding!
